A loyal and dignified servant

Whether you are a royalist or a republican, no one can deny that Queen Elizabeth II was an extraordinary woman who served her country with dignity and resilience.

As a woman born into extreme wealth and living a life few of us can even imagine, she somehow still managed to be relatable.

For many, she was not just our Queen, she was also a mother with a troublesome family, who seemed to be a constant source of worry and stress to her right up until she died.

She was also a woman who loved her horses and dogs - although horses are usually reserved for the rich, dogs are a great leveller, and the fact that the Queen found solace in her many corgis throughout her life gave her a special place in the heart of many.

But what people seem to admire the most about her, was her quiet dignity and stoicism.

She made a decision upon her coronation to serve her country until she died, and she did exactly that for over 70 years.

70 years in the same job.

When we hear that average time people stay in a job is 4.1 years, 70 years is a mind boggling amount of time.

How many of us would have done the same?
